Shari Lewis & Lamb Chop

(1934 - 1998)

When I was 9 years old I rode a train from NYC to Framingham, MA to visit my grandparents' summer home. I had the distinct pleasure of sitting next to Shari Lewis. She was gracious and delighted me with stories of her puppet, Lamb Chop. I remember how it felt to hold Lamb Chop and look into Shari's eyes. I think that was the first time I understood the magic of art. At the time I didn't think about how she acted like a child that day, but years later reflecting back on the experience I am indebted to her for that simple expression of joyfulness she displayed that day.
