A VISION: VISIONS IN NEW YORK CITY
Visions in New York City: Short Films and Videos has been a challenge on three platforms of investigation. The first was the analysis of the hundreds of films and videos submitted for the exhibitions and public screening. The second was the research of the infinite possibilities of interrelation between this material and the usual art-making practices we develop in our Department of Art and Art education. The third was the challenge faced by the participants in my Advanced Studio Course considering their dual roles as individual contributors and co-curators for this project. Visions in New York City is intended as a first of many future encounters on this subject. The project was totally open-ended in term of themes and techniques. We tried however to avoid the established artists. It would have been an easy shopping excursion in the numerous New York galleries and institutions, which are able to provide work by any international artist, if required. Visions in New York City is a simple issue. It is about what people simply are, what they would like to be, what they believe to be.
